Maersk Line appoints Nicolaj Noes Australia manager

DANISH shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk Group appointed in-house Nicolaj Noes, 39, as the new Maersk Line country manager for Australia to oversee development and execution of strategy in Australia, overseeing sales, operations and customer service.

He assumes his new role from August 2 in Sydney and will report to Jesper Praestensgaard, CEO for Maersk Line Asia Pacific.

"We are very pleased to have Nicolaj join our team. His vast industry knowledge, deep insights into the Oceania trade and long-standing shipping experience makes him a strong asset to Maersk Line and our customers. I am confident he has the leadership qualities, business acumen and creativity needed to further build on our strengths in Australia," said Mr Jesper.

Since 2006, Mr Noes was route director for the Oceania trade, and also part of the network and product team in Maersk's Copenhagen headquarters. In this capacity, he was instrumental in helping Oceania services deliver an impressive improvement in its 2009 financial results. He brings with him pan-global experience from the UK, US and China, where he previously held various leadership roles.

In heading up the container shipping business in Australia, Mr Noes succeeds Soren Houman, who moves back to Denmark to take up a new position within the group.
